General Information
Nature of Employment Your employment relationship with The Beverly Hills Hotel is at will. The policy of at-will employment means that you may resign at will, with or without cause and with or without notice, at any time. The same policy also means that The Beverly Hills Hotel may terminate your employment at will, with or without cause and with or without notice, at any time. At-will employment also means that The Beverly Hills Hotel may make decisions regarding other terms of employment including, but not limited to demotion, discipline, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, duties, and location of work, at any time, with or without cause or notice. No representative of The Beverly Hills Hotel other than the General Manager has the authority to enter into any agreement for employment for a specified duration or to make any agreement for employment other than at will. Any such agreement that changes your at-will employment status must be explicit, in writing, and signed by both the General Manager of The Hotel and you. Accordingly, neither the Employee Handbook nor any policy or practice of The Beverly Hills Hotel is intended to imply continued employment or otherwise limit in any way the policy of at-will employment. Nor does the Employee Handbook, in describing Hotel policies or procedures, oblige The Beverly Hills Hotel to follow any particular procedure in the course of imposing discipline or terminating employment.
Equal Employment Opportunity It is the policy of The Beverly Hills Hotel, to the fullest extent required by law, to treat all applicants and employees in a non-discriminatory manner without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, ancestry, national origin, marital status, disability, medical condition (as defined under California employment laws), gender identity, status as a Vietnam-era veteran or qualified disabled veteran, or any other characteristic protected by state or federal law. This applies to all forms of employment decisions, including, but not limited to, recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, compensation and promotion of all persons in every job classification. The Beverly Hills Hotel will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with known disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship for The Beverly Hills Hotel. To request a reasonable accommodation, please contact the Human Resources Department.
Types of Employment
- 1. Full-time Regular Employees (“full-time”): Those employees, other than temporary employees, who are regularly scheduled to work at least thirty (30) hours each week, and who have completed their Introductory Period.
- 2. Part-time Regular Employees (“part-time”): Those employees, other than temporary employees, who are regularly scheduled to work less than thirty (30) hours a week, and who have completed their Introductory Period. Part-time employees are eligible for benefits only when expressly provided in this Handbook or as required by law.
- 3. Temporary Employees/On Call: Those employees who are hired with the understanding that their employment is of a limited duration. Temporary employees are not eligible for any of The Hotel-provided benefits described in this Handbook.
- 4. Introductory Employees: Employees are considered to be introductory during the first ninety (90) days of employment for new employees or after appointment to a new position for current employees. During the Introductory Period, both The Hotel and the newly hired or appointed employee have the opportunity to determine whether they are compatible. It is important to remember, however, that employment with The Hotel is on an at-will basis at all times, both during and after the Introductory Period. Accordingly, completion of the Introductory Period does not modify the at-will nature of employment with The Hotel.
